Marcus Orlovsky
Founder & Director of Bryanston Square
Marcus is a founder member and director of Bryanston Square. He is passionate about helping the world of education create better learning environments where young people can set out on their journey to achieving their goals. To this end he focuses on both the design of buildings and the way teaching and learning take place.
Marcus is active in both the public and private sector: he works with individual schools to help them formulate and articulate their visions; he advises Authorities and architects on how to design the best possible buildings for their budget and seek out new funding solutions; and collaborates with national institutions such as the National College for School Leadership on programmes like 'Building Schools for the Future'.
Previously, Marcus was director of Gresham Bell, an IT consultancy that he built up from its inception to its sale to a French company. He was instrumental in founding Home Control plc, a UK leader in Electrical Power control technology subsequently sold to a quoted Swedish Group, and was also Project Finance Director at Stanhope Properties, creating entire new spaces in the heart of London, including Broadgate, Ludgate, Stockley Park and Chiswick Park.
In the distant past, he was with both Ernst & Young (ending up as Director of Recruitment) and Touche Ross (he left shortly after qualifying as an accountant). He read Economics at Bristol. He has bought, sold and built cars (which is still one of his hobbies), touched on antiques (establishing a small chain of antique shops), and now renovates old and historic buildings as a pastime.
Marcus is in demand as a public speaker, known for his enthusiasm, innovative thinking, and ability to both enlighten and entertain. He does everything from school INSET days, to major national conferences, and witty after dinner speeches in the UK, Europe and beyond.
Marcus lives in Wimbledon, near London, with his long-suffering partner, Alison. He often cycles to the office and seldom wears a suit. Because he travels so much for work, Marcus prefers to take holidays in quiet places and for the last four years has driven his Land Rover from his home to the deserts of North Africa.
