Lord Puttnam of Queensgate
Lord (David) Puttnam, the celebrated film producer and more recently an active supporter of educational and children’s causes through his work with the Teaching Awards Trust and UNICEF UK, took a role as non-executive director on the Promethean board in September 2006.
As a non executive director, Lord Puttnam will help project Promethean’s reputation as a leader in interactive learning technology to public policymakers across the globe. He believes that interactive learning technology in the classroom is an essential part of empowering teachers to engage and motivate students the world over.
Lord Puttnam first became acquainted with the company in 2001 when Promethean became an active supporter of the Teaching Awards Trust, which he co-founded and continues to be involved in.
He now holds a number of key positions in the world of education, including Chancellor of the Open University and UK Chairman of UNICEF, in addition to a recent appointment as Chairman of the House of Lords Committee on climate change.
After ten years in the advertising industry, David Puttnam spent thirty years as an independent film producer during which time he is widely credited with lifting the British film industry from the doldrums of the early 1970s. From 1986 to 1988 he was Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Pictures - the only non-American ever to run a Hollywood Studio.
Awarded a CBE in 1982 and a Knighthood in 1995, he was appointed to the House of Lords in 1997.
