Detailed agenda

Tuesday 9th October : Presentation of the world’s largest body of research evidence about the impact of interactive technology in education.

8.45 - 9.00
Registration for day delegates

9.00 - 9.30
Introduction by Professor Sir Geoff Hampton of Wolverhampton University - followed by:
Using IT in the classroom improves students’ achievement: where’s the evidence?
Vanessa Pittard - Director of Evidence and Evaluation, BECTA
(British Educational Communications and Technology Agency)
In 1998 the UK government invested over £50million in interactive whiteboards. Much more has since been invested in IT. Has it been wasted? This year’s report from the London Institute for Education was publicised as showing that there was no evident benefit. What do they - and other leading researchers from around the world - say to that?

From 9:30, you can visit a school, or attend up to 3 research seminars, or meet with publishers, partners, technical colleagues or senior representatives from Promethean informally

Please make your options clear via the registration form or ask event staff.

9.30 - 12:30
PROGRAMME OF SCHOOL VISITS
Delegates will have the opportunity to see a real classroom at work.

10.00 - 12:30

1. The REVEAL project, exploring the effective use of student response systems.
Diana Bannister MBE, Andrew Hutchinson and Helen Sargeant, University of Wolverhampton.
An exciting two-year development and research initiative that is the first of its kind. Shows video footage of teachers explaining the challenges that they have overcome.

2. The impact of interactive whiteboards on Forsyth County and new initiatives in assessment.
Bailey Mitchell Chief Technology and Information Officer, and Director of Instructional Technology, Jill Hobson report on how Forsyth County Schools in the US have transformed the teaching and learning process through installing Promethean Activboards in every classroom. They are the first District to standardise in this way. Two years on, learn how Promethean and its partners - Elluminate, ExploreLearning, Inspiration, and netTrekker - have supported school improvement efforts including a standards-based approach to instructional design, best practices in Assessment For Learning, and differentiated instruction. Learn how Forsyth uses all of these interactive resources to support their reform efforts.
